KSGB KNN UK Knabstrupper Gradings Results 2008

Results for the KNN Devon and Yorkshire gradings have now been published.

They are available on the Knabstrupper Society GB website, please follow this link to the

Grading Page

Enquiries are invited for the 2009 gradings.  It is proposed that three gradings will be held in 2009 - Scotland, Ireland and England.  Please follow the link to the KSGB website for more information.

The application forms and full details of the 2008 International Knabstrupper Conference are now available!  Please follow the link below, which will take you to the KNN site and further details:

KNN Knabstrupper Conference 2008

This is a particularly exciting conference because the speakers have just published a paper in Genetics Journal, as they have determined that the gene TRPM1 (Transient Receptor Potential Cation Channel, Subfamily M, Member 1) is the gene in which the causative mutation for both Knabstrupper spotting and CSNB is most likely located. Follow this link to the online publication of "Genetics".  The authors will be available to take questions on all aspects of spotting pattern inheritance.

Verification of Knabstrupper parentage through DNA

The Knabstrupper Society GB is now able to provide DNA testing within the UK through the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket

It is mandatory with the breed societies that a stallion is DNA tested and its parentage has been verified for it to obtain a breeding licence or be finally graded. By verification of parentage it is understood that the animal itself, as well as its sire and dam are DNA tested, and that it is possible from these results to conclude that the parentage matches that which is entered in the animal’s passport.

From 2007 DNA testing is mandatory for mares graded with the KNN. However, it is encouraged that owners of mares graded prior to this date that have not been DNA tested get them tested. This way the mare will have DNA lodged should she produce an offspring of stallion potential.

Follow this link: DNA testing for more information and to download the application form.

2008 KNN Knabstrupper Gradings - Clarification of approved dates and venues

KSGB wish to make it perfectly clear that the only two KNN gradings in England this year are at Centyfield Stud in Devon and at Bishop Burton College in Yorkshire on the 26th and 28th September respectively as previously announced.

The KNN have explicitly stated that all KNN grading activities in the UK are to be organised by its recognised UK daughter organisation, the KSGB.

As in previous years, the 2008 venues were chosen based on the locations indicated to us of likely participants. Having shown no previous interest in the KNN gradings, the UKA have since been adamant an additional grading venue was required this year based on existing numbers of horses from their own members. Over a month ago the UKA were invited to provide us with information numerically and geographically justifying an additional grading venue. No such information has been provided by the UKA, therefore no additional grading venue can now be accommodated this year.

Please be aware, the UKA have never had any indication from the KNN or the KSGB of any additional grading on the 27th September or any other date.

The UKA have repeatedly been asked to remove information regarding any additional venue from their web site to prevent further confusion. Not only has this request been ignored, they now have the audacity to blame the cancellation of a supposed grading on the 27th September on the KNN being “unable to offer the Central Grading on the 27th September as proposed”. We now find ourselves with no option but to put out a public warning regarding this matter.

If you would like to bring your horse forward for grading with the KNN, and have found yourself caught in the misleading information provided by the UKA, please contact us as soon as possible!

All KNN and KSGB members are eligible to put their horses forward for the KNN gradings. We will do our utmost to accommodate any late entries, including stallions, caused by the misinformation of the UKA.

Information on this year’s UK gradings and entry forms can be found on www.knabstruppersociety.org.uk

Dates and venues for the 2008 KNN Knabstrupper Gradings in the UK Announced

Entries for the 4th annual UK KNN Knabstrupper gradings run by the KSGB close on the 1st of August 2008.

Horses and ponies out of approved Knabstrupper parentage, or approved outcrosses, are eligible for Main Stud Book grading.

Mares and geldings out of unknown or unapproved parentage may be eligible for grading into the Appendix. The Appendix leads to the Main Stud Book.

Stallions must have their parentage DNA verified at the time of grading. No late entries for stallions will be accepted unless the stallion has already had its parentage verified.

Late entries for mares and geldings may be accepted where practicable, but stabling and entry into the grading catalogue cannot be guaranteed.

KNN recognises the Knabstrupper Society GB as Official UK Daughter Organisation

We are delighted to announce that the KNN, the EU recognised Mother Studbook of the Knabstrupper, has recognised the Knabstrupper Society GB (KSGB) as their daughter organisation, representing the breed here in the UK. KSGB are the first and only UK society recognised by the KNN.

The KSGB was born out of the KNN request that UK breeders and owners should get together and form a democratic association, adhering to the rules and principles on which the KNN is itself based.

Recognition by the KNN as the daughter organisation for the UK confers a number of benefits on our members including:
• Gradings and youngstock assessments organised under the auspices of the KNN.
• Regular news updates about the Knabstrupper and KNN activities in the UK and around the world.
• Usage of the KNN logo by the association and its members, within the rules set down by the KNN and its recognised daughter organisation.

Gradings for Knabstrupper horses and ponies are to be held this autumn under KNN auspices in both the North and South of England, dates and venues will be announced shortly. Owners presenting horses for grading must be full members of either the KNN or the KSGB.

The breed society website will be fully functional soon, with all the rules and regulations of the society, acceptable outcross lists, details of membership and lots of other information on the breed.

Duncan Gamble.
Chairman.

Knabstruppers in the Press!

Following the 2007 UK KNN Knabstrupper gradings in England and Scotland, the Scottish and Northern Equestrian magazine ran a report:

Scottish and Northern Equestrian is a monthly magazine that covers everything equestrian north of the border, as well as in Northern England.

Also, Karen Wealleans' mare Tresaison Gracie , who was Best in Show at the English KNN grading in 2007 was featured in the January 2008 edition of "The Journal".  Gracie was photographed (pictured below) as part of a report on Jo Milnes, who is the proprietor of West End Farm Equine Therapy Centre:   www.jmequineservices.co.uk

Gracie was with Jo to be broken in when the report was written.

Founding Board of UK Knabstrupper Society – board voted in!

Following the 2006 UK KNN grading a Working Group was set up to draft the Terms and Articles of Association of an elected UK Knabstrupper representative group.

The rules are based on the Mother Stud Book’s rules, with some differences necessary to allow for differing committee sizes and structures and national norms of such associations.

A founding UK board was democratically elected by UK Knabstrupper owners and breeders in February 2008.

Superb First Foals for Pinocchio Middelsom wow the Grading Judges in Scotland!

The Knabstrupper stallion Pinocchio Middelsom  had fantastic first season results with both his foals receiving First Premiums from the Dutch and Swiss judges at the Scottish Sport Horse gradings on the 29th September 2007.

Captivate, bred by Balcormo Stud, got a very high mark for her conformation from the SSH judges, and Blacklaw Phoenix was described by the judges as "a very good mover with a lot of elasticity".  Captivate made it a double when she was also awarded a First Premium by the Danish judges at the KNN Knabstrupper grading held in Scotland a week later.

He was recently purchased from a UK dealer - the owners believe he came from Denmark

First Knabstrupper Graded with SSH

Pinocchio Middelsom.

Pinocchio Middelsom, the young Knabstrupper stallion from Blacklaw Stud, was graded with Scottish Sports Horses on April 8th 2006. He showed again his excellent talent for jumping and received good marks / comments for his technique. Pictures and more information can be seen on the Blacklaw stallions page.

Congratulations Jon and Annabel!

At the 2005 UK KNN grading he had the highest score for loose jumping amongst the four stallions presented.

Do you know these horses?

Both were imported to the UK from Europe, and are suspected to be of Knabstrupper breeding.   Unfortunately they do not have any brands:

Logan (no name when purchased)

15.3hh Bay & Black Spots with White Mane and Tail with black  in.  Gelding, rising 6 this year.  Cluster of bay spots on point of shoulder on offside.  Very proud character.  Purchased from Kate Bunting equi-sales in Lesmahagow near Carlisle , UK  in November 2005, not backed at that time.  Previous to that there is no history known, possibly imported.

Jacob

15.2hh with roan neck, rib markings and chestnut spots.  Chestnut mane and tail.  White Blaze on face, two hind stockings.  Gelding, rising 5 this year.  Always low in the field pecking order!  Lovely nature.  Purchased privately from a lady in Malton, York , UK  in April 2005, fully backed/bitted, previous to that there is no history known, possibly imported.

If you THINK you may know these horses, or know of ANYONE who may even think they know these horses, please, please pass it on or contact Deborah!  There is no malicious intent for wanting to know these details, I am a private owner who’s just desperate to find out what breed her horses are, and hopefully who their parents were!  I’d love to know if the parents are registered or if they’re part-bred, etc..  Thank you, thank you, and thank you in anticipation!
